David Citron, Pres

A  Message from our President

David Citron, III

Make Dreams Real is the theme of Rotary International’s President D.K. Lee for the 2008-2009 year. This theme is in perfect harmony with how our Weymouth Rotary Club serves the community, both locally and internationally. Internationally, we make dreams real by rescuing indigent children from the city dump in Guatemala, and by supporting a clean water project in developing nations to prevent disease and birth defects. Through Rotary International’s Polio Plus project, the dream of the world-wide eradication of polio will soon become a reality. At home in our community, we make dreams real by helping families in need through the Eddie O’Rourke Rotary Santa project, the monthly meal program at Father’s Bill’s Place and assistance to the Weymouth Food Pantry. We also make dreams real by providing scholarships to the best and the brightest college-bound students in the Weymouth High Schools, and supporting the elderly with transportation through the sponsorship of the Weymouth Rotary Van. In partnership with the Weymouth Schools, we help make the dream of literacy real for elementary school students by providing a dictionary to each third grade student and a thesaurus to every student in the fourth grade.

We will continue to maintain and expand both our local and international service projects in this upcoming Rotary year. President D.K. Lee is dedicated to a world-wide effort to help children with disabilities. We will partner with an international Rotary Club in a new project to identify and rehabilitate those with handicapping hearing loss in Africa. To accomplish these goals, we must persist in our efforts to grow our membership and visibility in the community. New members give us new ideas and energy to move forward with our commitment to service above self. All of these mission activities occur with the use of strong fellowship as an opportunity for service. Fellowship is what makes Rotary so special. It is the bond for us to work together to “Make Dreams Real.”

Sincerely,

The Weymouth Rotary Club meets
Monday night at 6:15 p.m., at
