Who We Support....

Eddie O'Rourke Christmas Giving Program

This program is set up to reflect one of Weymouth’s finest past Rotarians as the most giving person the Weymouth Rotary has ever had, Eddie O’Rourke.  Rotarians purchase gifts of clothing, household goods or toys requested by needy families in the area.  This year the needs of 6 families and 2 institutions were served. Families were selected through the 911 Main Street Shelter, the Dove organization (Women’s Shelter) and the Weymouth Food Pantry.  Items not filled by club membership are purchased through funds raised in the Silent Auction.

On December 16, 2006, Rotarians met with the Interact Club to collect, wrap and deliver gifts to the families along with food provisions for the holidays.  Check our Photo Gallery.

Pancake Breakfast
This fundraiser is used by Rotary to support many worthy causes brought to the club’s attention. The Pancake Breakfast is one of the highlights of the year because it instills fellowship and camaraderie among club members who do the cooking and the Interact Club members who serve the meals.  Check the Photo Gallery for this year's photos.

Food Pantry Drive

The Annual Weymouth Rotary Club Food Pantry Drive was held on Saturday September 23, 2006 at Shaw's Supermarket. This drive benefits the local Weymouth Food Pantry.  The collection of food was done over four two-hour shifts.  Weymouth Rotarians collected 76 boxes of food (and estimate of 2,000 lbs of food) and $130 in cash donations for the Weymouth Food Pantry.  Check out our Photo Gallery for this year's activity.

Silent Auction
The Silent Auction is an internal fundraiser used as additional support to the Eddie O’Rourke Christmas Giving Program during the month of December. Rotarians donate approximately 18 gifts or services that are bid on by other club members.

Auto Raffle

The Auto Raffle is an annual event held to support the Club and the charities we donate to.

The gala kickoff including balloons, banners and free coffee was held at Basta's Restaurant, Washington Street, Weymouth on Saturday, November 10, 2007.  Check out the Photo Gallery photos. Only 700 tickets will be sold this year. The drawing will be held on Friday, May 16, 2008  at the Weymouth Elks Hall.  The grand prize is a 2008 BMW!  Last year's event had a huge turnout.  The raffle festivities were held at the Weymouth Elks club where club members, friends and relatives gathered with baited breath in anticipation of being the last numbered ball drawn and thus our winner. There was food, drinks and merriment. Every 25th number drawn won a donated prize. The last ten numbers drawn won a prize, with the very last number chosen being THE WINNER of a brand new 2007 BMW. Be sure to join in the festivities and excitement this year and maybe you will be the lucky winner of a new automobile!

Million Dollar Meal
One meeting each year is designated as the Million Dollar Meal. Members cook or provide the ingredients for the meal. The monies normally collected for the meeting are either sent on to the Rotary District and in turn are forwarded to Rotary International where they are used for funding National and International projects such as the Polio Plus Vaccine Program, or the go to the Weymouth Rotary Foundation account and are used for Scholarships.
